In an unknown era, humanity was almost extinct because most of humanity was devoured by a giant creature called Titan. Titan itself is actually a human who can transform into a giant thanks to Ymir Fritz, their ancestor who made a pact with the devil. After Ymir's death, the power of all the titan that existed in Ymir split into 9 titan. Ymir's descendants can all be giants and are called the Ymir Tribe who founded a country called Eldia. Although finally they moved away from civilization and exiled themselves to the Island of Paradis, then erected three large walls arranged concentrically, then shut themselves in the wall. The king brainwashed the entire Ymir tribe using the power of the Founding Titan, one of the 9 Titans so they thought humanity had become extinct except them. Tribes other than Ymir who joined the walls, such as the Asian clan and the Ackerman clan, were not brainwashed because they were not affected by the power of the Founding Titan. The rest of humanity survived in an area surrounded by three layers of walls named (starting from the outermost) Wall of Maria, Wall of Rose, and Wall of Sina, each wall has a height of about 50 meters which Titan cannot possibly reach has a maximum height of 15 meters. In the year 845, a surprising thing happened, suddenly appeared a Titan as high as 60m that can be seen from behind the wall. The Titan is the Colossal Titan, the Colossal Titan destroys the door in the Maria Wall which causes many Titan as high as 8 to 15 meters to enter the Maria Wall easily. This caused the residents of the Maria Wall to flee to the Rose Wall region.
Among the residents of the Maria Wall who fled, there was a child named Eren Jaeger who saw his own mother dead eaten by a Titan. The death of his mother made Eren swear to kill all the Titans on earth by becoming a soldier and entering the Survey Corps even though his mother had opposed him before his death. Five years have passed after the tragedy of the Maria Wall being cut down by Titan, Eren and his friends Mikasa and Armin have joined as warriors in the Survey Corps. (Source Here)
